A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE POLISH SOCIETY DOM POLSKI

 

   Throughout Argentina, Poles settled in different provinces.

We find Polish immigrants as early as the end of the 19th century. They were fighters in the uprisings of 1831 and 1863 against Russia.

In this free and sovereign Argentine land they found refuge, help, and freedom. In this blessed land under the blue sky they were able to work to make Argentina great and for their own personal, intellectual, and spiritual development.

Dom Polski was founded in 1919. Two years later, a piece of land was purchased to provide a solid foundation for its existence. On the very spot where we stand today, the people rolled up their sleeves and built the club. Membership grew rapidly with the large wave of immigrants following the First World War.

People found help with everything: finding work, housing, short-term loans, learning Spanish, and all kinds of paperwork.

In 1930 "DOM POLSKI" obtained its legal status, which we concluded later.

DOM POLSKI also played an active role in forming a representation of all Polish societies and organizations in Argentina, giving legal form to the current Union of Poles. Our financial support for the purchase of the headquarters in Buenos Aires was significant.

Currently, our institution offers both descendants and non-descendants a meeting place with diverse activities that bring the community closer to our goal: "To spread the popular culture of a modern Poland, without forgetting its traditions."
